The Drive airs Sunday nights at 10:30 p.m. on 49ABC KTKA in Topeka, KS, and is simulcast on Sunflower Broadband Channel 6 in Lawrence, KS. Season two begins August 26th at 10:30pm. You can also catch The Drive on Fox College Sports.
49ABC KTKA announces a powerful addition to their fall line-up with “The Drive,” airing Sunday nights at 10:30 pm and premiering Sunday, August 27th.
Featuring “30 minutes of spirited opinions from local sports experts…and you,” the show promises no-holds barred, unscripted sports talk from four of the area’s most vocal sports pundits (a.k.a.: “spundits”): Tom Keegan (Lawrence Journal-World); Kevin Romary (6Sports, Lawrence): and Tim Fitzgerald (Powercat Illustrated and GoPowercat.com).
The show will be simulcast on Sunflower Broadband Channel 6 in Lawrence, Kansas.
Tom Keegan, sports editor/columnist for the Lawrence Journal-World, has a media background as a baseball writer, author, and sports talk radio host. A 1981 graduate of Marquette University, Tom has written for the Orange County Register, National Sports Daily, Daily Southtown, Baltimore Sun and New York Post. He was the co-host of a drive-time radio show on 1050 ESPN Radio in New York. Keegan, 47, has written three baseball books, including "Sleeper Cars and Flannel Uniforms," the autobiography of late K-State great, Elden Auker. Keegan was named Marquette University 2005 "Communicator of the Year" by his alumni association.
Kevin Romary, sports director at 6News in Lawrence, is a 1996 graduate of the University of Kansas. Before joining the 6News team in 1997, Romary spent one year at KWIX/KRES radio in Moberly, Missouri covering the Big 12 and calling play-by-play at the high school level. Kevin grew up in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and has followed the the Big 12 his entire life. He's been to two final fours and two bowl games. And, he hopes to cover two more in the coming year!
Tim Fitzgerald is the publisher of Powercat Illustrated and GoPowercat.com, a magazine and Web site covering Kansas State athletics. Since graduation from K-State in 1986, Fitzgerald has been a professional journalist and author. The former sports editor of the Salina Journal, Fitz has covered K-State athletics for more than 20 years. Fitzgerald has written two books covering the history of K-State athletics and also co-hosts two radio shows related to K-State sports.
D.J. Whetter is the nightside sports anchor for Channel 6 and lead producer for The Drive. He’s a 2005 graduate of the University of Kansas, and has been covering everything KU and KSU since May of that year. D.J. was born in California, but lived in Arizona and Ohio before moving to the Midwest for High School. He grew up spending summers in Chicago with his grandparents, and in turn, roots for all Windy City teams, minus the White Sox. When it comes to college athletics, though, he’ll take the Big 12 over the Big Ten any day. D.J. has covered two NCAA tournaments and two bowl games, and looks forward to worrying about both the Cats and Hawks in the Big Dance this March.
