The Crew

Season Two

By Tom Keegan

The second season of The Drive will resume on a weekly basis Aug. 26, so consider yourself warned. Be prepared to spend your Sunday nights watching:

  • Sunflower Broadband Channel 6 sports director Kevin Romary, proud graduate of Kansas University, goes out of his way to infuriate Catbackers by predicting gloom and doom for the Kansas State football team on a weekly basis.
  • Gopowercat.com editor Tim Fitzgerald, a Kansas State graduate, features more purple in his wardrobe than the artist again known as Prince. Think those two guys have been mentioned in the same sentence? If only Prince had been able to stay on top the way Fitz did in the weekly online popularity poll, he never would have had to change his name in the first place.
  • KTKA sports director Nick Griffith, a Miami of Ohio grad, unintentionally insults every calorically challenged viewer by referring to me as "Big Guy." Watch closely and you might even see Griffith sneak winks to his e-mail admirers, of which there are many. One of these decades, Griffith might even show up with a hair out of place.
  • Those three guys make excuses for why they again didn't fare as well as the Marquette graduate in the weekly predictions contest.

By the time the show resumes, KU coach Mark Mangino will know whether incumbent Kerry Meier, the better runner, or Todd Reesing, the better scrambler, will direct the offense. There is no such mystery in Manhattan, where Josh Freeman, Ron Prince's first major recruiting coup, has the look of an NFL prospect. Meanwhile, have a great summer, keep the e-mails coming, and remember to set aside 10:30 every Sunday night as time spent screaming at your television.
